Campus Recruiter — Volunteer
FoxTalk is looking for a Campus Recruiter to help find strong students and bring them into our newsroom.
This is a volunteer role for someone who is good with people: meeting them, making the pitch, following up and turning interest into actual involvement.
If you have ever recruited for a fraternity or sorority, helped grow a student organization, served as a campus ambassador or simply been the person who knows everyone and gets people to show up, this role may be a strong fit.
What you’ll do
- Find students who could be strong reporters, editors, photographers, video producers, social media contributors or other FoxTalk team members
- Reach out directly to potential recruits
- Explain what FoxTalk is, what roles are available and why someone might want to get involved
- Follow up with interested students and help move them from an initial conversation to joining the team
- Build relationships with student organizations, campus leaders and other people who can refer strong candidates
- Help FoxTalk recruit across colleges and universities in Colorado
- Keep a simple recruiting tracker so promising people do not fall through the cracks
- Suggest new recruiting ideas, campuses and people FoxTalk should pursue
FoxTalk will give you the roles we need filled, background on the organization and basic outreach materials. You will have room to decide how to approach people and where to look for strong candidates.
Who would be good at this?
You do not need HR or professional recruiting experience.
You may be a strong fit if you:
- Like meeting new people and starting conversations
- Are comfortable reaching out to people you do not already know
- Know how to get someone interested in joining a group
- Actually follow up after the first conversation
- Have a strong campus network or enjoy building one
- Can tell the difference between someone who is genuinely interested and someone who probably will not follow through
- Are organized enough to keep several conversations moving at once
- Like having a goal and being trusted to figure out how to reach it
Experience with fraternity or sorority recruitment, student organizations, clubs, student government, campus ambassador programs, orientation, athletics or other membership-based groups translates especially well.
Greek-life experience is not required.
Time commitment
About 2–3 hours per week.
The schedule is flexible, and most of the work can be done remotely around classes, work and other commitments.
This is an ongoing volunteer role. We will check in after the first four weeks to make sure the role is working well for both you and FoxTalk.
What you’ll gain
- Real experience recruiting and building a team
- Ownership of a visible part of a growing student newsroom
- Experience with outreach, persuasion, relationship-building and organizational growth
- Direct work with FoxTalk leadership
- Connections with students and campus organizations across Colorado
- Experience that can translate to recruiting, sales, public relations, communications, business development and other people-facing roles
- A concrete record of the people and growth you helped bring into the organization
Compensation
This is an unpaid volunteer position.
If FoxTalk later creates paid recruiting or outreach positions, volunteers may be considered, but this role does not guarantee future paid work.

We are building a statewide publication where students can get serious journalism experience earlier in their careers. To do that, we need people who can find talented students and convince them that FoxTalk is worth joining.
