About FoxTalk

Serious journalism, earlier.

FoxTalk is an independent, student-edited Colorado newsroom founded in 2026. Started at the Community College of Aurora, FoxTalk now brings together contributors from colleges across the state, including the University of Colorado Boulder, Colorado State University, Metropolitan State University of Denver and the University of Denver.

We cover politics, business, technology, higher education, culture and the decisions that shape students’ lives. The newsroom is built around a simple idea: students should not have to wait until after college to do consequential reporting.

FoxTalk reporters have interviewed former NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine, Golden State Warriors minority owner and executive board member Mark Stevens, Colorado Department of Higher Education Executive Director J.B. Holston, NPR contributor Ricky Mulvey and candidates for Colorado governor from both major parties. Contributors have reported from major professional and policy gatherings including Fortune Brainstorm Tech and the Steamboat Institute’s Freedom Conference, covering executives, public officials and national leaders.

For FoxTalk contributors, that can mean covering a statewide political race, questioning an executive, reporting from a professional conference, producing a video interview or working across campuses on a story that reaches beyond one school. The goal is to leave with serious clips, stronger reporting judgment and professional relationships built through the work itself.

Reporting that travels

FoxTalk is being built as a network, not a single-campus publication.

Its contributors come from multiple Colorado colleges, and its reporting increasingly moves between newsrooms and professional communities. The Metropolitan at MSU Denver has distributed multiple FoxTalk political stories as the two newsrooms develop a distribution relationship.

FoxTalk stories have also been shared by organizations including SPJ Colorado Pro and the Steamboat Institute.

FoxTalk itself has drawn coverage from news and media organizations including The Denver Gazette, Colorado Politics, Sentinel Colorado and KGNU Community Radio, among others, largely around its reporting and student press-freedom work.

Part of Colorado journalism

FoxTalk’s work has increasingly put its contributors in contact with the professional journalism community.

In August 2026, FoxTalk was the subject of a roundtable at the Colorado Press Association’s Local News Solutions conference on student newsrooms and editorial independence. SPJ Colorado Pro President Doug Bell has led a two-part reporting and journalism-judgment training for FoxTalk contributors.

For working journalists, FoxTalk is also a way to encounter ambitious student reporters while they are still building their careers.

FoxTalk was founded at the Community College of Aurora and operates independently as a student-edited publication. FoxTalk is not an official website or communications channel of the Community College of Aurora or the Colorado Community College System.
